God says several things about renewing your mind. Writing is one way for me to renew my mind. Reading is another way I renew my mind. I wish I could do more of both. Visiting with my friends, family, other influencers of my life or other areas of life all are ways I renew my mind.

Here are a few scriptures about renewing your mind…

“God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalms 51:10

“He renews my life; He leads me along the right paths for His name’s sake.” Psalms 23:3

“Restore the joy of Your salvation to me, and give me a willing spirit.” Psalms 51:12

“You took off your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires; you are being renewed in the spirit of your minds; you put on the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth.” Ephesians 4:22-24

Maybe one of the most well knows….”Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2

I need renewal and I enjoy renewal. When I was young, I was more concerned with relationships than knowledge. Now I want both. If I could use my maturity in school I’d concentrate, take more notes, mainly care more about the topics being taught. I was short-sighted only concerned about the grade on that next test. I don’t want to be the same way now. I want to learn all that I can learn and renew my mind as often as possible. The main tool to do this is the Bible, God’s Word. The reason for this is that it is Truth. Education is the telling and learning of truth. Ultimate truth comes from God’s word and it is never wrong. God said, “let there be light” and you know what happened, light happened. His word never fails.

Renewing brings to mind several thoughts…

  • Forgiveness of sin and starting fresh with a renewed mind committed to serving Christ and living as Holy as possible
  • Recommitting to your daily time and your walk with the Lord and Saviour to know Him more and to be more like him daily
  • Doing something for the first time, something new you’ve never done before; in many cases, because the Holy Spirit has called you to do it.
  • Recommitting to a goal that you have fallen short on
  • Learning a subject from a different light so you can have more understanding and breakthrough moments and ideas

For me specifically, right now, a new season has just begun. Our kids are now off of summer break and on to their new fall school semester. This is a time for me to renew my schedule, renew my commitment to some goals I’ve been trying to reach, renew my dependence on God, renew my sleep schedule, and try new things. I sense God leading me to some transition and I don’t know what that is but I feel I really need to pray more and more about that. Writing this post is part of my renewing my mind. I’m processing thoughts and putting them down in writing and hopefully exercising some of my ability or at least some fulfilling some desires and dreams. I want to encourage people.

If there’s just one thing you can do to get started renewing your mind, read God’s word. Just like King David prayed, you can pray to God and ask him to renew your mind. Sometimes we can get down no ourselves. We can start believing the lies of Satan either about ourselves or about life and what life has for us. But Jesus is life, nothing else. Don’t believe Satan. That’s the main reason to renew your mind. It gets filled with nasty weeds that block God’s light and we’ve got to renew our mind and let the light in so we can then shine.

May God renew your mind and renew your strength today.

Intend to Live! Go do it.
