I read through Luke 2:1-15 today. It reminds me that God is in control.

I heard Dr. Al Mahler say recently on, #calledtolead, “If we don’t believe God is in control of every molecule, we are in big trouble…”. I agree with that faith. God is in complete control. That’s what stuck out to me from my reading in Luke today too.

It talks about the government calling for a census. We in the United States are going through an important census right now too. But God had a huge reason for willing that and causing that to happen then. His Son was about to arrive. He had to fulfill all of the prophecies. Some later, like riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, could have been arranged by others or by Jesus. Some I think were purposeful and arranged because He was called to fulfill all of them, which He did. But God from heaven directed the government at that time to cause Joseph and Mary to go to Bethlehem during the time Jesus was to be born. This fulfilled one prophecy, that the Messiah would be born in the City of David.

Before I move on with the rest of Luke 2:1-15, a story of Christ’s birth, Christmas; I want to mention more about Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a Donkey and the prophecies He fulfilled as the Messiah! As I write this, it is the last day of April in 2020, the month in which we celebrated Jesus’ resurrection, Easter. On Palm Sunday, Jesus rode the donkey into the city and this was a public proclamation that He was the Messiah to ALL of the Jews. They all knew Zachariah 9:9 and Isaiah 62:11.

“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout in triumph, Daughter Jerusalem! Look, your King is coming to you; He is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”

‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭9:9‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

“Look, the Lord has proclaimed to the ends of the earth, “Say to Daughter Zion: Look, your salvation is coming, His reward is with Him, and His gifts accompany Him.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭62:11‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

This is one way that Jesus was telling His followers both then and now that He is the Messiah and that he is here to be our Lord and our Savior.

This was just one prophecy Jesus fulfilled. I enjoy some good match and science sometimes. Mathematician Peter Stoner calculated that one man fulfilling 8 of the Old Testament prophecies is 1 in 10 to the 17th power. That’s 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. That’s a slim chance. Adding 8 more prophecies to the mix is 1 in 10 to the 45th power. That’s a lot more zero’s and much much slimmer chance. You can check that out more here because the odds are fun and crazy to think about.

There is more to that in this article,

I agree with the part of the odds of Jesus fulfilling over 300 prophecies. The chances are very slim. At one point the article says,

“Any man who rejects Christ as the Son of God is rejecting a fact proved perhaps more absolutely than any other fact in the world.”

That’s a bold, powerful, big statement. I’ll note that the article does provide some discussion about geological ages. The arguments and discussions are valid no doubt. In that area, I tend to lean towards the science and writings and finding of Ken Ham and .

This got really scientific just to point out that Jesus Christ is, in fact, the Son of God who…

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

All things were created through Him, and apart from Him, not one thing was created that has been created. Life was in Him, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, yet the darkness did not overcome it.”

‭‭John‬ ‭1:1, 3-5‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

I hope you consider Jesus Christ and invite Him into your heart and ask Him to be Lord of your life today. The encouragement today is that God is in control. You can take refuge in Him.

“I assure you: Anyone who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment but has passed from death to life.”

‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Intend to Live has its main verse as John 17:3 and we hope to help and encourage people to live accordingly.

“This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent — Jesus Christ.”

‭‭John‬ ‭17:3‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Back to Luke, after visiting the story of Easter and Palm Sunday and the odds of Jesus fulfilling that prophecy and around 300 total others, we know that God is in control.

I also see that He doesn’t do much marketing. He could have announced His coming to cities or to the entire world, but instead, He sent an angel followed by a multitude of angles to some shepherds in the region. That’s pretty crazy too. He uses the few he has chosen to spread the word to the masses. He spoke to the women at the well to save many samaritans in the city. He invested His life into the 11 who were told to go and make disciples. This is what we are to be about doing as well. That is planting seeds so that God can produce salvation through His Son.

Don’t be afraid, fearful, or anxious! He has sent His Son! What good news of great joy this is for all people. Not just for you or for me, but for all people!
